How do you hear about good, new music?

I stopped following music trends back when radio and music television were the way to find out about new music, and Napster's rising popularity made it the best alternative to buying an otherwise mediocre CD for a single song. So, it's been a while.

I'm a firm believer in Sturgeon's Law, that ninety percent of everything is crap. Even the Bard had his off days. So, how do you hear about the ten percent while it's still new? Or, even better, how do you narrow that down to the top ten percent of the ten percent? Is there a way to find a few good songs without listening to hundreds? Is good music even still trendy? Is new music even still good?
